🚀 Getting Started

How do I add my first debt?

Adding your first debt is easy:

  1. Tap the "Add Debt" button on the Dashboard
  2. Enter a name for your debt (e.g., "Credit Card", "Student Loan")
  3. Select the debt type from the dropdown
  4. Enter the current balance
  5. Add interest rate (optional but recommended for accurate projections)
  6. Set minimum payment amount
  7. Choose a due date
  8. Tap "Save"
💡 Tip: You can customize the color of each debt to make them easy to identify at a glance!
How do I record a payment?

There are two ways to record a payment:

Method 1: From Dashboard

  1. Tap "Add Payment" in Quick Actions
  2. Select the debt you paid
  3. Enter the payment amount
  4. Choose the payment date (defaults to today)
  5. Add optional notes
  6. Tap "Save Payment"

Method 2: From Debt Details

  1. Tap on a debt to view details
  2. Tap the "Add Payment" button
  3. Enter payment details
  4. Tap "Save"

Your debt balance will automatically update!

What is the onboarding process?

When you first open DebtZero, you'll go through a simple 3-step onboarding:

  1. Welcome: Learn about DebtZero's privacy-first approach
  2. Currency Selection: Choose your preferred currency (can be changed later)
  3. Completion: See key features and start using the app
Note: You can skip onboarding and use your device's default currency. No account creation required!
Do I need to create an account?

No! DebtZero is designed to work completely without an account. This means:

  • ✅ No email or phone number required
  • ✅ No passwords to remember
  • ✅ No login process
  • ✅ Complete privacy - your data stays on your device

Just download the app and start tracking your debts immediately!

✨ Features & How to Use Them

How do I view my debt payoff progress?

DebtZero shows your progress in multiple ways:

  • Dashboard Hero Card: See overall progress percentage and total debt
  • Progress Charts: Swipe through cards to see debt breakdown by category and individual debts
  • Debt Details: Tap any debt to see payment history and payoff timeline
  • Analytics (Premium): Access detailed charts and month-over-month trends

The app automatically calculates your progress based on original debt amounts vs. current balances.

How do payment reminders work?

DebtZero sends local notifications to remind you about upcoming payments:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications
  2. Enable payment reminders
  3. Set when you want to be reminded (e.g., 3 days before due date)
  4. The app will send notifications for debts with upcoming due dates
💡 Tip: You can tap a notification to quickly record that payment!

Important: Make sure notifications are enabled in iOS Settings > DebtZero > Notifications

Can I track multiple types of debts?

Yes! DebtZero supports unlimited debts across various categories:

  • 💳 Credit Cards
  • 🏠 Mortgage
  • 🎓 Student Loans
  • 🚗 Car Loans
  • 💰 Personal Loans
  • 🏥 Medical Bills
  • 📝 Other (for any other type)

Each debt type has its own icon and you can customize the color for easy identification.

How do I edit or delete a debt?

To Edit a Debt:

  1. Tap on the debt from your Dashboard or All Debts list
  2. Tap the "Edit" button (pencil icon)
  3. Make your changes
  4. Tap "Save"

To Delete a Debt:

  1. Swipe left on the debt in your list
  2. Tap the red "Delete" button
  3. Confirm deletion
Note: Deleting a debt also removes all associated payment history. This action cannot be undone!
How does the budget feature work? (Premium)

DebtZero Premium includes comprehensive budget management:

  1. Tap "View Budget" from Quick Actions
  2. Create budget categories for:
    • Income (salary, freelance, etc.)
    • Expenses (rent, groceries, utilities, etc.)
    • Savings (emergency fund, investments, etc.)
  3. Set budgeted amounts for each category
  4. Track actual spending vs. budget
  5. See surplus/deficit on the Dashboard

The Dashboard shows your monthly income vs. expenses summary and how much you have available for extra debt payments.

Can I export my data?

Yes, with DebtZero Premium!

Export features:

  • Export all your financial data in JSON format
  • Save to Files app, iCloud Drive, or share via email
  • Use exported data for backup or migration
  • Import data back if needed

To Export:

  1. Go to Settings > Export Data (Premium only)
  2. Tap "Export JSON"
  3. Choose where to save the file
Coming Soon: Bulk delete/clear all data feature will be added in a future update.

Why one-time instead of subscription?

We believe in fair pricing. Your financial journey shouldn't come with recurring fees. Pay once and own it forever!

How do I upgrade to Premium?

Upgrading is simple:

  1. Tap "Upgrade Premium" in Quick Actions or Settings
  2. Review premium features
  3. Tap "Purchase Premium"
  4. Complete purchase with Face ID/Touch ID
  5. Premium features unlock immediately!

Your purchase is tied to your Apple ID and syncs across all your devices signed in with the same account.

Can I get a refund?

All purchases are processed through Apple and are subject to Apple's refund policies.

To request a refund:

  1. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Find your DebtZero Premium purchase
  4. Select "Request a Refund"
  5. Choose a reason and submit

Will Premium work on all my devices?

Yes! Your Premium purchase works on all iOS devices signed in with the same Apple ID:

  • iPhone
  • iPad
  • iPod Touch (if supported)

Just download DebtZero on your other devices and Premium will automatically activate. No need to purchase again!

💡 Tip: If Premium doesn't activate on a new device, tap "Restore Purchases" in Settings > Premium.

🔒 Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored?

Your financial data is stored locally on your device using iOS Core Data. This means:

  • ✅ Data never leaves your device by default
  • ✅ We cannot access your financial information
  • ✅ Works completely offline
  • ✅ Protected by your device's security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID)

Optional iCloud Sync: You can enable iCloud backup to sync data across your Apple devices. This encrypts and uploads data to your personal iCloud account (not our servers).

Is my financial data safe?

Yes! Your data security is our top priority:

  • 🔒 Local Storage: Data stays on your device, encrypted by iOS
  • 🔒 No Cloud Servers: We don't have servers that could be hacked
  • 🔒 No Account Required: No passwords to steal or accounts to breach
  • 🔒 Sandboxed App: Your data is isolated from other apps
  • 🔒 iCloud Encryption: If enabled, data is encrypted in transit and at rest

Best Practices:

  • Enable a strong device passcode
  • Use Face ID or Touch ID
  • Keep iOS updated
  • Enable iCloud backup for redundancy
  • Regularly export your data (Premium)
Do you sell my data?

Absolutely not! We have a strict no-data-selling policy:

  • ❌ We don't sell your financial data
  • ❌ We don't share it with third parties
  • ❌ We don't use it for advertising
  • ❌ We don't even have access to it (it's on your device!)

The only data we collect is anonymous usage analytics (which features are used, crash reports) to improve the app. This data cannot be traced back to you.

How do I enable iCloud sync?

Currently Coming Soon! iCloud sync is planned for a future update.

When available, you'll be able to:

  • Sync data across iPhone, iPad, and other iOS devices
  • Automatic backup to your iCloud account
  • Restore data if you get a new device

For now: Use the Export Data feature (Premium) to manually back up your data.

🔧 Troubleshooting

The app is crashing or freezing

If DebtZero is crashing or freezing, try these steps:

  1. Force Close the App:
    • Swipe up from bottom and pause (iPhone X+)
    • Double-click Home button (older iPhones)
    • Swipe up on DebtZero to close
    • Reopen the app
  2. Restart Your Device: Power off and back on
  3. Update iOS: Settings > General > Software Update
  4. Update DebtZero: Check App Store for updates
  5. Free Up Storage: Ensure you have at least 500MB free
  6. Reinstall the App: Delete and reinstall from App Store (your data is saved locally)

If the issue persists, contact us at support@debtzero.app with details about when the crash occurs.

My data disappeared or is missing

If your debts or payments are missing:

  1. Check if showing archived/inactive debts: Some debts may be marked inactive
  2. Verify you're on the right device: Data is stored locally per device (unless iCloud sync is enabled)
  3. Check iCloud sync status: If enabled, ensure you're signed into the same Apple ID
  4. Look for app updates: Update to latest version
  5. Restore from backup: If you exported data previously, you can import it back
Prevention: Regularly export your data (Premium) or enable iCloud sync when available to prevent data loss.

Notifications aren't working

If you're not receiving payment reminders:

  1. Check iOS Notification Settings:
    • Settings > Notifications > DebtZero
    • Ensure "Allow Notifications" is ON
    • Check notification style (Banners, Alerts)
  2. Check In-App Settings:
    • DebtZero > Settings > Notifications
    • Enable payment reminders
    • Set reminder timing (e.g., 3 days before)
  3. Check Do Not Disturb: Disable Focus modes temporarily
  4. Verify Debt Due Dates: Ensure debts have due dates set
  5. Test Notification: Set a test reminder for tomorrow
Premium features aren't working after purchase

If you purchased Premium but features are locked:

  1. Restart the App: Force close and reopen
  2. Restore Purchases:
    • Go to Settings > Premium
    • Tap "Restore Purchases"
    • Wait for confirmation
  3. Check Apple ID: Ensure you're signed into the Apple ID used for purchase
  4. Verify Purchase:
    • Settings > [Your Name] > Media & Purchases > Purchase History
    • Find DebtZero Premium purchase
  5. Update App: Install latest version from App Store

Interest calculations seem wrong

DebtZero uses standard interest calculation formulas, but results may vary from your actual statements because:

  • Credit card interest is often calculated daily with varying rates
  • Lenders may use different compounding methods
  • Fees, late charges, and other factors aren't included
  • Promotional rates or rate changes affect calculations

Best Practice: Use DebtZero for estimates and tracking, but always verify exact amounts with your lender's statements.

Note: DebtZero is a tracking tool, not a replacement for professional financial advice. The app provides estimates to help you plan, not guaranteed payoff dates.
How do I change the app currency?

To change your currency:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap "Currency"
  3. Select your preferred currency from the list
  4. All amounts will update immediately
💡 Tip: Changing currency only affects how amounts are displayed. It doesn't convert your existing debt amounts to a different currency.
